Ripatransone , the capital city, of medieval origin, is an Italian town of 4,384 inhabitants and is located on a high hill (494 m above sea level) close to the Adriatic Sea (12.5 km); it is among the most ancient of the province of Ascoli Piceno and it also has one of the largest municipalities (74.16 km²). The climate is similar to the Mediterranean one.
City of art with numerous museums, it lives off tourism, farming and furniture factories emerging in the production of oil and wine. It is called Belvedere of Piceno thanks to the wide panoramic view it offers. Especially popular is the production of DOC wines, such as the Falerio dei colli Ascolani and Rosso Piceno superiore and the olive oil. Ripatransone takes part of the Italian associations of Oil City and Wine Cities.
In the early twentieth century Ripatransone was really a city, not only because a bishopric, but because of the presence of schools, hospitals and other services,as well as numerous economic and social activities and a wealthy class that was part of a the "small metropolis" of the brand Piceno.
The countryside , especially on holidays, livened up the city which measured its seasons on those of agriculture and crops that were all opportunities to meet, talk and conviviality, such as the arrival of foreigners, were they visitors or officials sent by the government to manage the power of the king in the suburbs or deputies in search of consensus.
The Octave of Easter is the biggest event of the year, dedicated to the patron saint of the city and the Diocese, the Madonna di San Giovanni. The celebration has dual nature, religious and civil , with the fireworks of the Fire Horse, became an attraction able to convey tourists from distant regions.
The seaside resorts such as Grottammare and Cupra Marittima just are few kilometers from the village and the milder summer weather favors excursions of tourists from the beach.
